Successful Givers, Toxic Takers, and the Life We Spend at Work - Adam Grant

Imagem
The organizational psychologist Adam Grant, who many know from his New York Times columns, describes three human orientations, of which we are all capable: the givers, the takers, and the matchers. These also influence whether organizations are joyful or toxic for human beings. His studies are dispelling a conventional wisdom that selfish takers are the most likely to succeed professionally. And, he is wise about practicing generosity in organizational life — what he calls making “microloans of our knowledge, our skills, our connections to other people” — in a way that is transformative for others, ourselves, and our places of work. In a wonderful interview here .

Kind of back to normal

Things at home coming slowly back to normal. All the re-building and painting work is done. The furniture is back into its previous place. But now is the time to start thinking about new furniture and new rugs. And to buy yarn for new blankets and rugs and baskets of my own making. Yay! Meanwhile, I have a playlist to prepare because I'll be the folk DJ tomorrow night.

Choosing paint colours

Choosing paint colours and tiles is so damn tiring...and challenging! And controlling all the work done everyday... Please remember me of that next time I decide I need to paint my flat again. Next week, it'll be the furniture odyssey. And this seems to be the song to go along with my feelings today:

You just know

...your weekend was absolutely great - and even a little bit crazy! - when you get home, start unpacking and you find THIS inside your suitcase. Some sneaky creature - and it wasn't supernatural, was it, Jonathan...? - put it there when you weren't watching.

Mandatory OST for an after party

Back home.

Back home. After such a wonderful weekend, it's hard to land on a painting yard, also known as my flat these days. Hopefully it'll be only this week. Let's see how that goes! I'll probably need another holiday when all the painting work is done..

Yorgos Lanthimos's 'The Lobster'

(foto retirada do artigo citado) Very interesting lunchtime reading about Yorgos Lanthimos's film 'The Lobster'. The article, published on The New York Review of Books, is written by Francine Prose and its title is 'Totalitarian love' . The Lobster  premiered in the US at the 2015 New York Film Festival and will be released in theaters in spring 2016.

German class

My first german class just finished. My seventh language, so much fun!

The true pleasure of cooking on a rainy sunday evening

Today would have been one of those days...if I didn't have to go out in the rain and vote!
